Okinawa is southernmost prefecture in Japan, and consists of hundreds of the small islands.
Okinawa Prefecture can be divided into three major island groups, the Okinawa Islands (Okinawa Shoto) around Okinawa Island, the Miyako Islands around Miyako Island and the Yaeyama Islands around Ishigaki Island.
Okinawa's capital, Naha, is located in the southern part of the largest and most populous island, Okinawa Island.
