Kyoto

Kyoto is Japanese ancient capital. About 1.4 million live in Kyoto.
There are a lot of temples, shrines and gardens. A traditional Japanese culture remains in Kyoto.

  1. Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion)
    Kinkakuji is a Zen temple. The Golden Pavilion (formally called 'Shariden') was originally built in 1397. The present building dates from 1955 as the pavilion was burned in 1950.

    The temple's official name is Jisho-ji. It was built in 1474. Plans to cover the pavilion in silver were never realized.
